TV’s Discover Downunder presenter Brooke Hanson launches nationwide search for Australia’s next off-road adventure stars
Olympic swim star and Nine Network Discover Downunder presenter Brooke Hanson is staging a search for the nation’s most adventurous Aussies who are primed and ready to embark on an all-expenses-paid road trip of a lifetime.
The popular travel show host is the face of Dometic Australia’s Follow the Sun 2014 campaign that will see three Australian families or couples receive a $35,000 caravan, camper trailer, motorhome or off road vehicle makeover, as well as an all-expenses paid three month holiday, courtesy of Dometic Australia.
Brooke will attend major caravan and camping shows around the country in the coming months to urge visitors to consider a ‘time out’ from their everyday lives, to discover Australia.
“Whether you’re a retiree who always dreamed of touring the Great Ocean Road, or a young couple who would love to take time off work to experience the barren beauty of outback Queensland
with the kids, this could be your ticket to freedom,” she said.
“I would urge anyone with a taste for adventure to apply – this has to be the ultimate road trip of a lifetime!”
Brooke said the Follow the Sun campaign was also an opportunity for her to encourage all Australians to explore their own backyard and support local tourism, an industry that injected more than $51 billion into the national economy last year.
“I’ve been lucky enough to visit so many amazing destinations around Australia and the one thing I’ve learnt is that the tourism dollar is the backbone of so many of these communities,” she said.
“If the Follow the Sun campaign can shine a light on these fabulous destinations – our white sandy beaches, outback towns and stunning rainforests – so that Aussies consider their homeland for holidays rather than heading overseas, it’s a win-win for everyone.
”The chosen Follow the Sun ambassadors will tour South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, all the while updating video blogs of “must-see” tourist attractions and destinations, and offering off road and travel tips.
“Camping, caravanning and 4WD off-roading have long been favourite pursuits of Australians, with more and more families and retirees joining the ranks each year, ”Brooke said.
“Our ambassadors will embark on three separate journeys and will be offering an insider’s guide to the best camping spots, caravan parks and must-see destinations around the country – both famous haunts and hidden gems.
Along the way, Brooke will join the three couples or families at some of her own favourite holiday destinations, co-hosting ‘Happy Hours’ and other community events at caravan parks and camping sites.
NSW retirees Sue and Tony Hammond, ambassadors in a previous Dometic Australia Follow the Sun campaign, urged couples of all ages to enter if they had ever toyed with the idea of taking time out to see Australia.
“Our list of favourite spots is extensive, there’s just so much our beautiful country has to offer and the friendly atmosphere of holiday parks make for an incredible experience– we made life-long friends and memories,” Mrs Hammond said.
“The town of McLaren Vale was a real highlight – just delightful and of course South Australian wines are world class!“
We were avid ‘world travellers’ but Dometic Australia’s initiative gave us a taste of Australia and made us determined to see even more of it, and we have been doing so ever since.
”Follow the Sun ambassador roles are open to all Australian couples or families who own a caravan, camper trailer, motorhome or off road vehicle and are interested in exploring the country.
The successful ambassadors will be announced in early June and will set off on their respective journeys in August 2014.
