1. DOMETIC VACUUM FOOD SEALER/CRYOVAC MACHINE
Prolonging the life of and storing food easier is what every long term free camper is looking for. Whether you’re on a long touring adventure or you’re fishing on a remote river, you want to be able to lock in the freshness of your food. I find the best way to do this is to seal everything in airtight packaging. Using a vacuum seal/cryovac machine is the simplest and easiest way to do this. I like to use the Dometic vacuum food sealer/cryovac machine, I find it keeps food fresh for five times longer than refrigerators alone!
It runs on 12V DC and 240V AC and a one touch operation, when you close the lid, locks food into place. Come to think of it, you can use the vacuum sealer to keep your phone try on your boat or protecting your car keys from water.
2. CARAVAN AWNING GROUND SHEETS
There’s nothing worse than a free campsite or caravan park site where the grass has been killed by groundsheets. In fact majority of caravan parks I know, with good reason, ban most groundsheets, but not the eco type mats that are breathable and designed for the outdoor lifestyle. These come in various styles and materials but the essential thing is that they are breathable. An essential piece of kit I would have thought.
3. NEW DOMETIC ANNEXE WALL SYSTEMS
Annexe wall systems are a great way to extend your living space on a campsite. They also provide shelter and protection against wind and sun. The new Dometic Annexe Wall Systems are a real winner. They’re lightweight, durable and suitable in all weather conditions. Weighing in at 30% lighter than traditional canvasses these annexe wall systems are quick and easy to assemble. You’re sure to be able to find the right Dometic Annexe Wall System for your caravan or motorhome and these systems come with a full two year warranty.
4. NEW DOMETIC PRIVACY SCREENS
I was sold on the importance of privacy screens at a recent free camp I visited. After doing a bit of research, I went out and bought a set of the new Dometic Privacy Screens and I’m very happy. They provide privacy, act as a windbreak and give protection against the sun on hot summer days. The main concern with privacy screens is that they will restrict the airflow, but I’ve found the new Dometic Privacy Screens give you plenty of ventilation.
5. CAMP OVENS
Camp ovens are the Australian Team for Dutch Ovens and are a versatile piece of cooking equipment loved by every free camper. Who can resist the smells of stews and just about everything else from dampers to pizzas?
Whether it’s to be cast iron or a spun steel there’s bound to be one for you. What could be better than sitting around an open fire with the camp oven bubbling away and in just a few drinks time it’ll be ready. Wow!
6. THE WAECO CFX-50 FRIDGE/FREEZER
It’s always a bit frustrating when you’re going on a long trip and you’d like to have ample food, as well as some icy cold beverages for Happy Hour. That’s why I like to use the Waeco CFX-50 Fridge/Freezer. It has an internal capacity of 50L and can fit 72 cans! It can also be used for cooling or freezing and comes with a basket with removable divider. There’s also a dairy compartment.
With a three year warranty plus additional two years on the compressor (parts only). Best of all it releases your caravan/motorhome fridge from space taken up by cans/bottles and leaves more room for food items.
7. SOVEREIGN BBQ’S AND GRILLS
BBQs are a great thing for RVers, as most of us try to keep our RV indoor areas free from cooking smoke and fat smells. Sovereign BBQs and Grills have created, in my opinion, the perfect BBQs for vanners, or anyone else with a love of the great outdoors. They’re engineered for the harsh marine environment like salt water, wind and sun. That means it’s just right for camping,
Sovereign BBQs are perfect for slide outs on caravans or as freestanding units. They’re known for being easy to use, easy to clean and great to use in windy conditions. They also make amateur cooks like professionals. What more could you want?
8. WAECO SOLAR PPS120, 120W
Solar panels are to be found on nearly every new or used caravan today. This is because they are a reliable alternative power source, direct from the sun, to charge your batteries.
I like to use the Waeco Solar PPS120, a portable folding solar panel with an inbuilt 10 amp heavy duty voltage regulator and adjustable feet to direct it towards the sun during the day. Whether they be fixed or portable, solar panels are used by all free campers – power from the sun, what could be better?
9. LED LIGHTS
Led lights, I reckon, have revolutionised travel safety and provide exceptional light when camping using minimal battery power.
They’re to be found on all new vans and easy to fit to preloved vans as well. Whether you use them inside or outside, they transform lighting and provide both safety and security. If you’re travelling at night on dusty or wet roads, your LED lights will give other road users a much clearer view, making the road safer for everyone!
10. GREY WATER TANKS
Nomads care about our environment and realise the need to capture grey water, especially in free camping environments. Motorhomes have special tanks fitted for this exact purpose, and many more caravans are having them installed or using portable ones.
Pulling into a campsite finding someone else’s grey water makes for a soggy welcome. ‘Fully self-contained’ means just that and with each passing day more camping spots are insisting that RVs abide by these requests.
