First place went to Robert Marshall, for his article “Let’s Go Foiling” in Megayachts; second prize went to Jan Adkins for an article in Chesapeake Bay; Lenny Rudow won third place for a BoatUS Magazine piece.
Pompano Beach, Fla. – Feb. 22, 2016 – Dometic Group, a global provider of comfort products for the marine industry, was honored to sponsor three Boat Writers International (BWI) Technical Writing awards at this year’s Miami International Boat Show on Feb. 12.
The first-place Technical Writing award was presented to Roger Marshall, for his article “Let’s Go Foiling” in the November issue of Megayachts. Second prize went to Jan Adkins for the article, “Captain Boyle and the Messerschmitt,” in Chesapeake Bay magazine’s January issue. Third place went to Lenny Rudow, for the article “Bathymetric Break-Out” in BoatUS Magazine’s issue last June. Edward Zacko received a Merit award for the article “AIS for the Rest of Us,” in Good Old Boat’s July issue.
The Technical Writing category received more than 70 entries. Jim Rhodes, BWI Judge, commented that first-place winner Roger Marshall’s “Let’s Go Foiling” article was “good, solid technical writing, …[with] a thorough and clear explanation of a complex subject, written in a straightforward and readable expository style that does not get in the way.”
“Boat owners and enthusiasts rely on boating journalists to research, explore and highlight topics that enhance their time on the water. Roger, Jan, Lenny and Edward are outstanding examples how to achieve this by translating complex subjects for the layman,” said Doug Curtis, VP of Marketing at Dometic, sponsor of the BWI Technical Writing awards. “It’s been a great year for boating journalism. Bill Sisson’s successful launch of Angler’s Journal shows how much fishing and boating enthusiasts are ready to embrace exciting new content.”
At the Miami show this year, Dometic showcased its newest, most advanced HVAC equipment and water purification equipment, as well as a range of comfort items for boats, such as the award-winning CRX refrigerator, Eskimo icemakers, industry-leading toilets and the Eskimo Cup refrigerated cup holder for boats.
Booth visitors saw the Dometic Titan Chiller, a 5-ton unit with a revolutionary new titanium coaxial tube condenser, the Dometic VARC48 Variable Capacity Chiller and Dometic Ship-Wide Ventilation Equipment. The Dometic water purification team was on hand showcasing new products, including the Dometic Sea Xchange XTC-ZTC – the first and only fully automatic, integrated double-pass reverse-osmosis system that can purify every source of yacht water, including seawater, brackish water, lake water, river water, or dockside water.
