New Sea Xchange CX Watermaker at Workboat

Dometic’s variable capacity Sea Xchange CX offers full mechanical and electrical redundancy, offsite monitoring capabilities and rugged steel plumbing and construction; it can produce between 8.000-40,000 gallons per day of potable water; product to be unveiled on Dec. 2 at noon at booth #2341.

Pompano Beach, Fla. – Nov. 18, 2015Dometic Marine, a division of Dometic Group, a global provider of comfort products for the marine, truck, RV and automotive markets, today announced that it will introduce the new fully automatic Dometic Sea Xchange CX Watermaker, a high-capacity unit built for extreme offshore conditions, at the International Workboat Show, to be held in New Orleans Dec. 1 through 3.

The Dometic Sea Xchange CX can produce between 8,000-40,000 gallons per day (GPD) of potable water for a wide range of commercial applications, including on offshore platforms, floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities, workboats, military vessels and island resorts. The new CX will be unveiled at Workboat Show booth #2341 on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at noon. (Refreshments will be served and members of the media are welcome.)

“The CX is unique for several reasons. Firstly, it is a variable-capacity system, and can reduce output when demand is lower. It is also the only commercial watermaker that offers full mechanical and electrical backup to the automated features on the system,” said Ned Trigg, Executive Vice President of Dometic’s Marine division. “The CX also comes with remote, offsite monitoring capabilities included as a standard feature with every unit.”

The CX’s construction is designed to withstand extreme conditions. It contains 100 percent 316SS plumbing, unlike other brands of commercial watermakers, which utilize plastic plumbing. It offers both digital and analog pressure monitoring, as well as digital and analog flow monitoring.

The CX system is constructed with rugged, welded steels frames, designed to withstand the most extreme environments encountered offshore. The frames are Line-X™ coated, providing an extra layer of durability. The membrane vessel assembly is built in a separate integrated frame which can either be joined to the system frame, or remotely mounted if installation space requires. This feature allows the commercial user maximum flexibility in the field.

CX systems include the industry’s most advanced 316SS passivated motor mount isolators, which properly support the high pressure pump during operation, thus minimizing system vibration. The system includes a super-duplex, radial axial high pressure pump that is highly resistant to the effects of seawater. There is an 8,000-hour service interval on the pump – significantly longer than the service interval of the traditional piston pumps used by some of the other watermaker brands.

CX systems also provide built-in maintenance features designed to maintain system components and extend the life of the membranes. The system further incorporates media filtration on the watermaker skid that automatically backwashes media when necessary, greatly reducing maintenance costs. The system also includes an automatic, fully programmable, fresh water flush.

The CX uses use 316L SS pre-filter housings; each housing provides 170 square feet of surface area of prefiltration. The superior prefiltration extends system component life, and reduces ongoing maintenance costs. “None of the other brands offers SS housings of this nature; many offer their commercial systems with plastic housings, which present an ongoing potential source of failure,” said Trigg.

In addition to the Dometic Sea Xchange CX Watermaker, on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at noon, Dometic will also be unveiling the new Dometic Titan Chiller, a 45-ton unit with revolutionary new titanium coaxial tube condenser.
