Turbo Sound Shield Cuts Noise 50%

Soundproof Cover is Latest Enhancement for Award-Winning Turbo Technology

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – October 6, 2008 – Dometic, the world leader in marine air conditioning technology, has introduced an optional sound shield for the award-winning Turbo marine air conditioning unit, providing up to 50 percent noise reduction.

The customized molded sound shield, made with a six-millimeter lining of sound-absorbent closed-cell neoprene, fits snugly over the compressor. The result is a three- to five-decibel reduction in noise.

“Thanks to the advanced engineering features of the Turbo design, this was already the quietest marine air conditioner on the market,” said Frank Marciano, president of Dometic Corporation, Environmental Division. “Now we’ve made the quietest even quieter. With our new soundproof cover, you can barely tell the air conditioner is running. All you can hear is the whisper of cool comfortable air.”

Marciano explained that Dometic took extraordinary measures to design the Turbo for silent running. The unit’s enclosed-motor, high-velocity blower minimizes noise while improving performance. The air conditioning components float on cushioned vibration mounts in the molded condensate pan, and even the mounting clips contain built-in isolators, virtually eliminating vibration from the unit to the deck.

Installation of the Turbo sound shield only takes minutes with no special tools. The package includes mounting hardware. The cover’s molded shape form-fits the Turbo unit to accommodate the existing locations of valves, hoses and wiring.

“The marketplace has embraced our Turbo air conditioners, as they have set a new standard for factory-installed systems everywhere in the world,” noted Marciano. “When we engineered the Turbo design, we purposely set out to ‘reinvent’ the self-contained air conditioning unit from the inside out, resulting in a product that was smaller, lighter, quieter, more efficient, more reliable and easier to install and service. The sound shield is part of our ongoing development efforts aimed at continual improvement and enhancement to meet our customers’ needs.”

Dometic offers the sound shields to fit all Turbo models sold under the Cruisair and Marine Air brands, selling directly to boatbuilders for new installations and through Cruisair and Marine Air dealers for retrofit on existing boats.

The Turbo won the 2007 IBEX Innovation Award in the Mechanical Systems category in recognition of its advanced engineering and innovative features.
