Miscellaneous - projects and declarations
- Corrosion project
Ever since 1930’s, work has been done in order to find a sustainable alternative to the use of hexavalent chromium as a corrosion inhibitor in the absorption cooling unit. At today’s date no viable alternative has been found that performs sufficiently with respect to product life, product safety, energy efficiency and product performance.
- Environmental declarations
A result of the thoroughly studies the LCA imply, is the generation of Environmental Declarations where information related to the material content of the product is accounted for. In addition to that, a further number of environmental declarations have been compiled.
- Environmental information and printed material
The environmental information at Internet, intranet and in brochures is regularly kept up to date. Data to the annual report is collected and compiled from factories, sales companies and elsewhere.
- Internal database
An internal database is available to all concerned employees. It contains up to date environmental legislation (mainly European), internal documents and guidelines, Certificates (ISO14001/EMAS) and relevant reports.
- Life Cycle Analysis - LCA
A number of life cycle analyses have been carried out for various products for caravan and motor home (refrigerator, A/C, toilet) and for hotel products (refrigerator) during the past years. Most studies confirm that the usage phase is by far the most environmentally harmful phase. This since the consumed electricity demands great quantities of resources and consequently generates waste and emissions. The transports show to constitute only a small fraction of the total environmental impact.
- Operation & Environment Report
Dometic has more then 20 manufacturing facilities all over the world. The main processes are metal working, welding, moulding of plastic, vacuum forming, foaming, painting and enamelling. The environmental aspects of the production are energy, use of chemicals, waste, noise and emission.
Since a number of years, Dometic collects data concerning environmental matters from all the group’s production facilities. This data measures energy consumption, water consumption, waste generation and material input and output. The data is saved in a database and the result is presented to the factories in an annual factory report. The factory report provides the platform for setting targets for environmental improvements each year.
