REACH

The European Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH EC No. 1907/2006) entered into force 1.6.2007.

The aims of REACH are to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the hazards of chemicals and to enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry.

Several obligations such as pre-registration, registration, notification of substances in articles and communication in the supply chain will effect not only the chemical industry but also so called downstream users. It means companies such as Dometic that use chemicals and/or preparations in their production and/or products.

Article 33 of REACH

Duty to communicate information on substances in articles.

At 28.10.2008 the so called candidate list was published and made official.

The candidate list is a list of substances of very high concern (SVHC) for the environment and to human health such as carcinogens, bio-accumulative and persistent substances.
The list is established by the Member States of the European Community and is published by ECHA,  the European Chemical Agency located in Helsinki, Finland.
The Candidate List contains at present 15 substances, but the list will be continuously updated over time.

Following the obligations in Reach, the Dometic Group must provide B2B customers, if any products are containing substances from the candidate list in a concentration above 0.1% (w/w) of weight), with sufficient information, available to us, to allow safe use of the article including, as a minimum, the name of the substance. End consumers also have the right to the same information upon request. We are then obliged to answer 45 days after request.

To fulfill this obligation under Reach, the Dometic Group have started the communication with all their suppliers (supplying goods that are part of the product or the packaging) and to collect information regarding any presence of substances from the candidate list in their articles. This enables us to provide our customers with information of the potential presence of SVHC in our products above 0.1% (w/w).

It is generally known that soft PVC of cables and gaskets of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) may contain plasticisers such as DEHP. Furthermore, plasticisers such DEHP might be present in soft PVC-coatings on either metal sheets or in blind systems. Beside that, to our current knowledge, none of our other products contain any other substances from the candidate list above 0.1% (w/w).
