Despite its vastness, the sea is a delicate eco-system. Over many hundreds of years, we humans have dumped much of our waste there. Ed McKiernan made it his mission to change the public’s perception of waste management. In 1984, he took over as CEO of Sealand. He and his colleagues immediately began designing toilet systems for the marine leisure industry. His passion and commitment even helped to influence legislators in the USA. In 1992, the Clean Vessel Act was passed into law.
Dometic acquired Sealand in 2002 – and Ed went on to become Director of Global Product Development, Sanitation. He retired in 2011, but his legacy lives on.
