Where does the CFX get its immense power?

Compressor cooling technology, used in Dometic's CFX series, offers unrivalled cooling power. But how does it work? Well, it relies on a refrigerant that changes from a liquid to gaseous state in the evaporator. The evaporation process extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit, causing the temperature to drop. The compressor draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. From here, the absorbed heat is released into the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies and flows back to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again. The result of this is an excellent cooling performance, capable of deep-freezing, even at extreme ambient temperatures.

Since October I have never removed it from my vehicle. I use it for all kinds of things, like lunch for work, cold drinks for the kids, Gatorade after practices, and camping with a family of 4. I never thought I would would need one until I got one now I can't go without it. The CFX is a very well built fridge and it is a perfect fit in my jeep and Toyota 4runner. The blue tooth option because the motor is so quiet I never think it is on. My hat is off to dometic for making the (IMO) best 12v fridge on the market.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Smidge from Great with one caveat We've been on the road with this from everywhere from the blazing desert to the cold rainy PNW. We love it when it works however I feel as though Dometic either over-engineered what could be a great fridge/freezer or missed one big glaring exception. We have a lithium ion battery system, which runs at a lower voltage than lead acid. While this unit is generally miserly on its power consumption it automatically shuts off when we still have plenty of power left in our lithium power bank, even on the low battery protection setting. I called up the service number and they were of no help and even went so far as to say they've never encountered this issue while reviews for other Dometic units and the rest of the internet are littered with the same issues/questions. It would have been great if Dometic would have had the foresight to design in an option to either shut the battery monitor feature off or have a setting for Lithium. Too bad the only viable alternatives on the market in this style have the same battery protection system built in.

After 2 weeks turned one side to fridge and was flawless operating. The is the centerpiece of my camping gear. I am using a Jeep as a camper working well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cornerstone from Impressive Cooler - Test Results GENERAL OBSERVATIONS Extremely Quiet – I was blown away with how quiet the compressor was. Super Efficient – I was impressed with the compressor efficiency and how long it ran on a motorcycle battery. Quality of Construction – Great Precision – performed exactly as the specs state TESTING the CFX 40W --- Conditions: Battery: 18 amp-hour Jet Ski / Motorcycle battery (just fully charged) Ambient temperature: ~75F Internal Temp Selected: 32F Temperature Delta: 43F Setting: Medium Sun / Shade: In the Shade In the test I chose to go with it empty and at ambient temperature rather than pre-chilling and putting a bunch of frozen food in it that would have reduced the power consumption. I monitored the battery voltage throughout it running. The temperature dropped fairly quickly down to 32F and when it read 32F I quickly opened it up to compare the temperature on the unit to the small thermometer I placed in it before starting the test. They matched within a degree or two. I then shut the lid and didn’t open it again throughout the rest of the test. The unit ran for 11.5 hours before the battery voltage reached the "Medium" cut-off point listed in the specifications and properly shut the unit off. I was happy that it shut off exactly when it was supposed to. For those that don’t know, the CFX 40W monitors the battery’s voltage and will not let your battery’s voltage drop below what would be required to start your vehicle (So you never end up stranded, with a dead battery.). There are three cut-off settings you can set for this, "Low", "Medium", "High". With the "Low" allowing the battery to be the most discharged before the cooler shuts off. There is also an option to turn it "Off" which will allow the cooler to keep running until the battery is completely dead. You would only want to choose this if you were using an extra battery and did not need to use the battery to start something like a vehicle. During the 11.5 hours that the cooler ran the temperature display said the internal temperature fluctuated between 28F and 34F as the compressor turned on and off to keep it cool. The battery that I used was a small 18 amp-hours battery and most car batteries are about 45 amp-hours so on the "Medium" setting a standard car battery may have lasted about 1.5 days, and on "Low" perhaps two days. A couple of other thoughts effecting the results. • If I were actually using the cooler, rather than testing it, I would have plugged it in to the wall and brought the internal temp down to 32F rather than using battery power to cool it down. That would have extended the life of the battery. • If I were actually using the cooler, rather than testing it, it would have been full of pre-frozen food which would have extended the life of the battery. Note: If you put unfrozen food in and expect the cooler to freeze the food it will shorten the life of the battery. • The difference between the internal temp of 32F and outside air temp of ~75F was only 43F, which for Texas isn’t standard. Had the outside temp been 90F rather than 75F the temperature delta would have been 58F and it would have shortened the life of the battery. • I only opened the cooler one time for about 2 seconds to remove my test thermometer. If the cooler was opened more times and for longer the battery life would have been shortened. • If the cooler were left in the sun rather than the shade the battery life would have been shortened. • I also purchased the CFX IC40 insulated cover but didn’t use it in the test. Had I used it in the test the battery life would have been longer. The cover would have been extremely helpful in hotter weather and in direct sunlight. Note to Dometic: Prior to purchasing this I would have been far happier if you had provided a quality video that included how the lid is opened, showed the internal sizes (depth, width, etc.) and standard U.S. grocery items that can be placed in it, showed the drain plug, bottom, all sides, and lid rubber piece and explanation for it. You have a super high quality product but your video showing all the features is sub-par. I bought this thinking there was a possibility of having to return it and I almost didn’t buy it because of all the questions your video didn’t answer. You will sell far more if you actually produce a quality video since it takes a lot of trust to drop nearly $1K on something with a low quality video of its full features and design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Vbugman from Awesome unit Only had the CFX50 a short time, take the time to read the use manual, power coservation is awesome will run all day at 90 degree plus weather on my spare group 35 battery, quite and maintaines set temp, have to get use to buying cans instead of bottles for my favorite drink (cans stack better), plenty of space for a weekend of food, construction is very good, well built and placed handles, control panel is easy to use and see, consider the ARB but glad I chose the Dometic, have had motorhomes with Dometic great unit.

In Hawaii, the temperatures are usually in the 70-80's. How can I add insulation to my CFX95DZW in order to offset the warm weather? I already purchased the insulated protective cover and it has minimal impact.
