My vehicle has a Lead-Acid household battery. Is converting to a LiFePO4 battery worth it?
This question is not easy to answer. Anyone directly comparing an AGM or gel battery to a LiFePO4 battery will conclude that the latter is not only lighter with the same dimensions but can also provide a much higher amount of current. There is a lot to recommend in a LiFePO4 battery. The higher purchase price and possibly some effort in adapting the charging equipment is the only resulting consequence. Whether this is worthwhile is a completely different story and can only be answered individually. Let’s look at it this way. The motorhome life is your hobby. You want to be on the road without any hassle and don’t want to worry whether your parking space has a power socket.
You have an inverter on board and, when your wife uses the hair dryer, you don’t want to worry about whether it takes 5 or 10 minutes. If you want to have your fully available battery capacity and like to travel without complication, the investment in a Lithium battery technology is worthwhile.
