Do I also need an additional charger for my selected solar system?

If you have or buy an RV, it most probably will have an already installed on-board power supply. Normally, central electronics are then installed, which are simply intended to ensure that the vehicle battery or batteries are recharged via the local grid and while driving. The latter doesn’t work optimal and based on experience, the default charger (e.g., EBL) is also relatively weakly designed.

Experienced RV operators know the problem. Despite a powerful alternator, the battery is never quite as optimal. For short overland trips to the next parking space, hardly any electricity is recharged and, even after hours of travel, the battery is not sufficiently full. This issue has only become more severe lately as vehicle manufacturers have moved to using smart alternators. On many vehicles with Euro 5 and Euro 6, the battery or batteries can no longer be easily charged while driving. If a “smart alternator” is installed, it simply stops working at a certain voltage level (the starter battery), and thus also stops charging the vehicle battery or batteries. This is based on the state of charge of the starting battery and, if it is sufficiently charged, smart alternators completely stop their service. It does not matter in which state of charge the attached vehicle battery is. For both problems, there is only one right solution - and that is a charging booster. The latter monitors the vehicle battery or batteries, always delivers the exact amount of current needed, and takes care of the full charge.
